I will try to answer some of those questions.
Let's have a look at Top Shop.
Are those things unique? In my opinion not only they are boring but rather poor quality. When you think that producing a bag like above cost about £2 and you pay maybe £30-50 they it seems ridiculous to get one.
Not only you would overpay but soon you could get really upset seeing more and more people having it!
You want to be unique and special, don't you? This is why the designers clothes are special- not only because of the design of the garments and their quality but because they are different and shopping at designers boutique you would find 2-3 the same garments not 30(well, they probably have got about 3x more in he stock room).
What about the shop floor?
In my opinion is very chaotic. There is plenty of unnecessary stuff around. It start looking like a tesco store where you can find pretty much everything everything...and nothing? Have a look!
Nail polish? really? If I would like a nail polish I would go to Boots...
In a way I find it quite embarrassing. It seem as they have to try very hard to beat the target...
I actually found it very hard to guess what is this section about?!
Well, who knows, maybe in next season they will start selling ice cream or DIY stuff
(saying that, I've seen Urban Outfitters selling pink DIY before)
It's not like I'm trying to say that It's wrong to sell variety of products but fashion should be about fashion. If someone is good at doing something he/doesn't have to try to be 'cool'. As they say 'Less is more'
The last thing is service: have you ever asked a staff for a different size of shoes in a busy store? It's a shame but most likely you will have the feeling they hate you for that, or they might even say that they haven't got that size because they are simply to lazy to check. You got your shoes and clothes, it's time to try them on! Not only you wait ages in a queue to try them on, then you realize that 35% of them are simply dirty(most of them have been lying on the floor few times- the sale items probably few times a day) and 25% are destroyed (mostly zips etc). If you have a luck and you found something you like and looks good on you, now you will queue another 20 minutes to pay for them...
I believe that know you see why I don't like shopping in high-street stores...
One plus for Top Shop- you can see they are trying to be fashionable...but maybe trying too hard(?)
I quite like those manikins, but that would be all.
Can you see the crowd of people around? I could not even take a picture without some heads in the middle of the screen... The sale will be worse. Then people start pushing each other and almost fighting for the clothes...
This is why I personally prefer to shop in Charity shops or places like TKmaxx - at least you won't spend that much money(affordable for students), the stuff you buy are most likely unique(as they are from old collections or unknown brands) and If you got luck you might get some good textiles like silk or leather for few pounds, good right? :)
PS: Please, don't get me wrong! I visited many high street shops but in a way they are the same so I choosen Top Shop as an example one.
